Yellow Ribbon Program

Bryant & Stratton College is a Yellow Ribbon institution, participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program under the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33).

Yellow Ribbon benefits allow eligible Chapter 33 recipients with 100% eligibility to receive funding above the state tuition cap at participating institutions. This means that veterans enrolling with Bryant & Stratton College can receive full coverage of their tuition through the VA thanks to the Yellow Ribbon program. Nursing students at the College’s Virginia Beach and Hampton Campuses are not eligible for these benefits. For more information on the Yellow Ribbon program, visit the VA website.

Post-9/11 GI Bill® Information

For individuals who served in active duty service on or after September 11, 2001, you can apply Post 9/11 GI Bill® benefits to help pay for your education. GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by the VA is available at the official U.S. government website at https://www.va.gov/education/about-gi-bill-benefits/post-9-11/. Nursing students at the College’s Virginia Beach and Hampton Campuses are not eligible for these benefits.

  • You were released from active duty and placed on the retired list or temporarily disabled retired list.
  • You were released from active duty for further service in a reserve division of the armed forces.
  • You may be eligible if you were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001.

  • Cost of tuition and fees – paid directly to school – not to exceed the most expensive in-state undergraduate tuition at a public institution of higher education.

  • Yearly books and supplies stipend of up to $1,000, paid directly to you.
  • A one-time payment of $500 paid to individuals relocating from a highly rural area.

Montgomery GI Bill® Information

There are two specific forms of benefits available through the Montgomery GI Bill®.

Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (MGIB-AD)

Eligible service members can receive up to 36 months of benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill® for use up to 10 years after retirement or discharge. The Active Duty benefit program is specifically for active duty service members who enroll and pay $100 per month for 12 months – they are then eligible to receive monthly education benefits upon reaching their minimum service obligation.

There are four specific categories for eligibility for the Montgomery GI Bill®. Service members must have an honorable discharge, a high school diploma or acceptable GED or secondary diploma or, in some cases, 12 hours of college credit. In addition, one of four categories must be fulfilled. More information about education benefits offered by the VA is available at the official U.S. government website at https://www.va.gov/education/about-gi-bill-benefits/montgomery-active-duty/.

Montgomery GI Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

The Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. You may be entitled to receive up to 36 months of education benefits.

State Military Aid

State benefits and grants vary by state and can be determined through working with a Bryant & Stratton College financial aid advisor. They will work with students to determine if there are additional military benefits available on a state-to-state basis.

Military Tuition Assistance

Military Tuition Assistance is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.  Each Service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process and restrictions. The best place to start is by contacting your local education office. This money is usually paid directly to the College by the individual service. The following links provide important information on how to get started.

Bryant & Stratton College is Non-LOI (Letter of Instruction) and does not upload your course schedule into GAE. You must contact your Education Services Officer (ESO) for detailed information and request approval by the ESO 7-to-14 days prior to the first day of class, depending on your education office requirements.

Also, here are some basic requirements to keep in mind:

  • 16 semester hours cap per fiscal year.
  • Anything over 12 credit hours will require an override from ESO (Education Services Officer).
  • 130 semester hours for baccalaureate degree completion and 39 semester hours for a master’s degree remains in effect.
  • After completing a bachelor’s degree, a soldier must have 10 years of service from his or her BASD (Basic Active Service Date) or PEBD (Pay Entry Base Date) to receive tuition assistance toward a master’s degree. There is no restriction going from associate’s to bachelor’s level.
  • Soldiers cannot receive tuition assistance toward a second degree at the same level (i.e., no second associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degrees).
  • GoArmyEd will not be able to fund any courses for the completion of a professional degree (i.e., PhD, MD or JD).
  • Army policy that disallows soldiers flagged for APFT and Height/Weight to use tuition assistance will be fully enforced.
  • Soldiers must upload a degree plan signed by their academic advisor, their accounts receivable statement, and their schedule to their GOArmy account.
