Spring Nursing Pinning Ceremony

Syracuse, NY Area

August 15, 2025

Bryant & Stratton College’s Syracuse Area Campuses are honored to celebrate the achievements of its nursing graduates with a special Nursing Pinning Ceremony. This event commemorates the perseverance, dedication, and skill of students who have successfully completed their nursing education and are ready to step into the healthcare profession as compassionate caregivers and professionals.

The Pinning Ceremony is a cherished tradition that symbolizes the transition from nursing student to practicing professional. Receiving the nursing pin signifies a commitment to excellence and empathy, reflecting the high standards and values instilled during their training. Each graduate is presented with a pin, serving as a lasting emblem of their readiness to deliver exceptional patient care and make meaningful contributions to the healthcare field.

This milestone recognizes the hard work and determination of graduates, as well as the invaluable support from faculty, family, and friends. It celebrates the beginning of a career dedicated to improving lives, upholding the values of the nursing profession, and making a positive impact on communities.

History Of The Nursing Pin

The nursing pin carries a rich history that dates back to the 12th century, when knights were awarded badges for acts of service. The tradition evolved in the 1860s when Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, honored her graduating nurses with medals of excellence at the Nightingale School of Nursing in London.

The first nursing pin in the United States was awarded in 1880 by the Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. Since then, the tradition has spread worldwide, with nursing schools designing unique pins to represent their institution's values and mission.

The pin is a symbol of achievement, a reminder of the dedication required to complete nursing education, and a promise to uphold the ethical and professional standards of the nursing profession. It marks a rite of passage and the beginning of a meaningful career in providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients.
