Medical assistants are multiskilled health professionals specifically educated to work in a variety of healthcare settings performing clinical and administrative duties—from understanding medical terminology to maintaining medical records and much more. The goal of the associate in medical assistant studies program is is to prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession. Medical assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the physician’s office and often ease transition to safe home care. Professional level CPR and First Aid training is also included in course work. Upon successful program completion, graduates may apply to take the AAMA National Certified Medical Assistant exam (CMA) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) CCMA certification exam.
