College Announces Expansion; To Double Size, Add Jobs And Increase Enrollment

RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 3, 2010 – Bryant & Stratton College announced today that it will double the size of its Richmond Campus to accommodate growing demand for its career-oriented curriculum, which is helping underemployed and unemployed Central Virginians get back to work.

For the expansion, the College has leased approximately 17,000 square feet of space in a shopping center adjacent to its existing free-standing building at 8141 Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County.

Construction of new classroom and office space is expected to begin early next month – and will include the renovation of the second floor of its existing building into a state-of-the-art Medical Sciences Department.

The new space is next to the Food Lion in the Cross Pointe Shopping Center just off Hull Street Road. It will be completed in time for the College’s winter semester, which will start shortly after the first of 2011.

“We’ve seen six consecutive semesters of record enrollment growth in the last two years,” Bryant & Stratton College Richmond Campus Director Beth Murphy said. “With the addition of popular new course offerings in criminal justice, financial services and particularly health care, enrollment demand is driving this expansion.

“And because of our long-standing tradition of maintaining small class sizes, we have begun to recruit qualified instructional staff and expect our expansion will add considerably to our employment of faculty and support staff by early winter.”

The College currently enrolls 730 students and projects enrollment of more than 1,000 by the winter semester.

The new Medical Sciences Department will bring together the College’s nursing, medical administrative and medical assisting associate’s degree programs and will include three new innovative laboratories to better prepare degree candidates for the real world of health care.

“Our health care offerings in addition to other new degree programs are having a favorable effect on employment,” said David Mayle, director of admissions. “We’re seeing people who’ve lost their jobs come into our programs – all of which offer career counseling and close connections between faculty and the business community – and become re-employed by adding new educational achievement to their resumes,”
