Brian Graves Named New Head Coach of Men’s Bobcats Basketball Team

Hampton/Virginia Beach, VA (Aug 24, 2015) – Bryant & Stratton College Hampton & Virginia Beach campuses have just officially named Brian Graves as the new head coach of the Men’s Bobcats Basketball team for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

A Newport News native and Catawba College graduate, Graves returned to his alma mater after four years of playing professional basketball, to serve as Associate Head Coach for its men’s basketball program for the 2014-15 season. In 2011, he coached the junior varsity at Heritage High School to a 16-2 mark.

“We are extremely excited to have Coach Graves join the BSC Bobcats family,” says Erik Blackwell, Bobcats Athletic Director, “He has a successful track record and remains to be an exemplary hometown role model for future basketball hopeful.”

Graves earned his degree in sports management in 2007. While at Catawba, Graves was a three-time All-South Atlantic Conference performer and was named All-Southeast Region as a senior. Catawba advanced to the NCAA II Regionals in three of Graves’ four seasons and he helped the team to conference championships during his sophomore and senior seasons. Graves became a 1,000 point scorer in his career, currently ranking 22^nd with 1,387 points. He stands third all-time with 600 assists, shares the school mark with 15 assists in one game and holds the all-time South Atlantic Conference record for career assists. Graves produced the second highest assist season as a senior with 203. He also ranks third all-time in steals.

After graduation, Graves played in Germany with the Grevenbroich Elephants and helped the team move from the Regional League to the 2^nd Division. He was named All-League both years. Graves also spent a year with the Vermont Frost Heaves of the PBL and most recently was team MVP in 2011-12 with the Virginia True Hope Trailblazers.
