Eric Lahetta Named Bryant & Stratton - Ohio Athletic Director
By B&SC News Team
Paul Wehrum, Ohio market director has announced the hire of Eric Lahetta as the Bobcats new director of athletics. Lahetta brings 26 years of leadership experience in intercollegiate athletics, including 10 years as an associate/assistant director of athletics and 13 years as the head baseball coach at Oberlin College.
Bryant & Stratton College of Ohio’s athletic department is still in its infancy as the Bobcats men’s and women’s basketball programs were initiated in 2018. The men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs were added to the mix this year and baseball & softball will begin competition in the spring of 2021.
“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead Bryant & Stratton College into this new and exciting era of athletics” Lahetta said. “I look forward to building a winning and successful culture with both the staff and the student-athletes.” Lahetta went on to say, “The entire Lahetta family is really excited about being a part of the Bobcat Nation”.
At Oberlin College, Lahetta served the last five years as the associate athletic director for internal operations after serving the previous five years as the assistant athletic director for intercollegiate sports. He was in a multi-faceted role as the director of NCAA compliance and was vital to the inter-workings of the day-to-day operations of the athletic department. Responsibilities included club sports, overseeing the department’s budgets & finances, human resources, team transportation, preseason and break housing and dining. In addition, Lahetta gained experience in facility supervision, advertising, marketing, promotions and sponsorships, as well as game/event management, summer sport camps, and direct sport reports.
Lahetta served as the head baseball coach of the Oberlin College baseball program for thirteen seasons. During his tenure, he spearheaded the Yeomen’s revitalization and climb within the standings of the North Coast Athletic Conference. He finished his coaching tenure with 143 career victories, second only to the legendary hall of fame coach Guy Throner (1925-1954). Lahetta’s teams held four of the most successful seasons in Oberlin baseball history.
A 1992 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Lahetta holds a Bachelor of Science in sports administration & management and a Master of Education in health & physical education in sport and recreation administration. He was a member of the Falcon baseball team for two seasons playing under head coach, Danny Schmitz. Prior to attending Bowling Green, Lahetta attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where he was a member of the baseball and football teams.
Lahetta is the head varsity baseball coach at Clearview High School as well as the 18u Lake Erie Warhawks.
Lahetta is a 1986 graduate of Marion L. Steele in Amherst, Ohio, where he was a letter winner in football and baseball. Lahetta resides in Amherst with his wife, Becky and five children, Mackenzie, Cody, Chase, Bryson, and Ayden.
