Bobcats Soccer Debuts in Top Five of USCAA Polls
By B&SC News Team
The Bryant & Stratton College men’s and women’s soccer teams debuted in the top-five of the first USCAA coaches poll, ranking second and third in the nation, respectively.
Victories over Cayuga Community College, SUNY Polytechnic and Penn State-Hazelton have powered the women’s soccer team early in the year. A back-and-forth, 4-4 draw with Alfred State and a 2-0 loss to fifth-ranked Washington Adventist are the only blemishes on their record to this point. Portia Davis and Koemhong Hout lead the Bobcats with four goals each. Amela Racic and Brooke Laukitis have shown play making prowess, recording two official assists to lead the Bobcats early in the year.
Kailee Jasewicz and Victoria Herrera have shared goalkeeping duties with Herrera taking most of the play thus far, recording one clean sheet and compiling a 3-1 record. The women’s next action comes tonight against SUNY ESF followed by Sunday’s match against William Smith. The premier matchup of the regular season comes in two weeks when number-one ranked Maine-Fort Kent comes to Syracuse.
The second-ranked Bryant & Stratton men’s team received only three fewer poll points than first overall Florida National. The undefeated side have conceded only two goals on the season while outscoring their opponents 21-2 in five games.
Romaine Williamson and Uros Momic have been dominant offensive forces, scoring seven and six goals, respectively. Their efforts have been boosted by senior mainstay Zino Zampach’s five assists. Bogdan Milovanovic and Jon Stublla have each chipped in three assists and a goal of their own. Delano Hodge, Alex Pompo and Loudajour Lewis have also tallied for the Bobcats this year.
Like the women’s side, goalkeeping duties have been shared. Babucarr Ceesay and Julien Guesnet have each picked up victories though Guesnet has seen the lion’s share of the work, starting in four of the Bobcats’ five games thus far.
The Maine-Fort Kent men’s team will make the trip to Syracuse with the Bengals women’s team for a similar top-10 showdown with BSC. The UMFK, men are ranked fourth in the nation, two back of the Bobcats with their October 14 showdown looming in two weeks.
Prior to the marquee matchup with UMFK, the Bobcats will wrap their season series with Berkeley College (NJ), travel to face Essex CC and SUNY ESF while hosting ASA College.
