Men's Basketball Proving their Ranking Right

Expectations were high for the Bryant & Stratton College men’s basketball team as they garnered a top-15 preseason ranking in the NJCAA. Through their first trio of games, the Bobcats have met expectations.

Wins over CCBC Catonsville, CCBC Dundalk and Vance-Granville Community College have staked the 14th ranked Bobcats to a 3-0 record with the victory over VGCC giving BSC their first conference victory.

Bench play has been a key for the Bobcats through their first three contests.

There’s no better example than their season-opening win over CCBC Cantonsville when the Bobcats’ bench outpaced the starters 49-38. Eight bench players factored in with four seeing 15 minutes or more. Those four – Jaron Burnell, Mike Basnight, Romello Anderson and Shyheim Draughan – equaled the output of BSC’s starting five in the win.

It was more of the same in BSC’s 20-point victory over CCBC Dundalk and their 40-point thrashing of VGCC. No player in the starting five or the bench scored more than 20 points and only two players saw more than 25 minutes in either contest.

The focus now shifts to Guilford Tech tomorrow night, followed by back-to-back games the following weekend against Central Carolina and Davidson County. BSC’s balanced attack and deep bench will be on display once again as they look to extend their early win streak.
