Soccer Teams Streaking Towards Postseason

The Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats soccer team continued their tear through the USCAA ranks with two more dominant victories over the past week. The Bobcats triumphed over Monroe Community College 4-0 last week, with a flurry of second half goals turning a 1-0 nailbiter into a 4-0 thumping.

Lewis Lacy would start the party in the first half, scoring his second of the season 20 minutes into the contest. His tally would get plenty of insurance as Ojai Bedward, Zino Zampach and Scott Robson would each find the net in a 20 minute span of play to ice the game away.

With a bushel basket of goals still fresh on their mind from last week, the Bobcats did their best to double the effort against Onondaga Community College last night.

In their most dominating effort of the year, BSC score seven first half goals to cruise to an easy victory. Shavon John-Brown, Mortitz Greiner, Dajhal Kelly and Alves each scored before the game was 30 minutes old to stake BSC to a 4-0 advantage. Even after the flurry of goals from the opening 30 minutes, Zampach and John-Brown would score just 26 seconds apart to add two more tallies to the advantage. Robson would get in on the fun just eight minutes later to close the scoring for BSC.

The pair of goals in 26 seconds for the Bobcats was hugely impressive in a half filled with quick strikes from BSC. The longest span between goals came between John-Brown’s marker to open the scoring and Greiner’s goal to push the lead to two. That span lasted just a hair over nine minutes, a relatively short period of time between goals for nearly any other soccer game.

The men close their schedule with a match against ASA on October 24 and their season finale against Cazenovia College on October 27.

The women’s team closed out their season in impressive fashion, polishing off a four-game win streak to finish at 9-3 on the year. After conceding an early goal to North Country CC, the Bobcats rattled off five unanswered goals to close the first half and leave no doubt in a game that would finish 6-2. Adela Racic continued her pursuit of the national scoring lead, picking up yet another hat trick on the evening, while Maria Vela, Kai Jacobs and Nicolette Weir joined in on the fun.

Vela broke the ice for BSC, bringing the score back to 1-1 and Racic scored her first just three minutes later. Jacobs and Weir would sandwich another tally by Racic to close out the first half and the third and final goal of her hat trick was scored about 10 minutes after the second half kicked off. Racic wasn’t done there, scoring her 20th of the season to help push BSC past Onondaga CC, 2-1. Vela again opened the scoring for the Bobcats and Racic added a security marker in the second half, doubling BSC’s lead and all but icing the game. However, OCC would cut the lead to one with just over four minutes to play but Megan Hagadorn shut the door and sealed BSC’s final win of the regular season. The postseason looms for both BSC outfits as they push to grab the program’s first since the men’s 2001 title.
