Uros Momic Named USCAA Player of the Year

Bryant & Stratton College soccer star Uros Momic was named USCAA Player of the Year the best player in the USCAA after the 15-goal, 5-assist season for the Bobcats. The senior takes the accolade in stride and is quick to point out that teamwork was the key to playing well.

“This is possible because of the whole team’s work,” he said. “This is not just an individual success.”

The Bobcats fell in their fourth-straight National Championship game in a 1-0 loss to Florida National University. It was the second year in a row Bryant & Stratton were toppled by Florida National in the national title game.

Momic was selected as Player of the Year from a group of the top five players in the nation. The USCAA All-American selection committee votes on that group of players to determine the Player of the Year winner.

Momic, who hails from Serbia, was recruited for Bryant & Stratton after several players urged Men’s Soccer Coach Nick Dimitrievski to watch him play. The coach visited Momic’s then alma mater, Harcum College, in Bryn Mawr, Penn., and was “sold in the first five minutes.”

“I knew he would be one of the top players in a year and he was,” Dimitrievski said. “He lived up to the hype.”

Momic was also named as a DI All American for the 2018 season. Bryant & Stratton’s men’s soccer team has long been a powerhouse on the national stage, due largely to players like Momic who finished among the top five scorers in the nation.

“His understanding of the game and his savviness, that’s what separates the top players from the rest,” Dimitrievski said. “We’re a storied program and he’s one of the best we’ve had. He is part of continuing the excellence of this team.”

Momic said commitment to practice and study, is the key to his success both on the field and off.

“I try to make my time management goals and I have my priorities straight,” Momic said. “School and soccer are the only things I do.”

He said coming to Bryant & Stratton to finish his degree has opened unknown doors to him.

“This has been a tremendous learning opportunity,” he said. “I saw something here I didn’t have before and I learned a lot.

Momic will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business management in the spring. Afterwards, his goal is to play soccer professionally and then, coach.

“I want to try and share the knowledge I’ve learned,” he said.

While the Bobcats will no doubt feel the loss as graduating seniors like Momic move on, Dimitrievski said the team is ready to reload and set its sights again on the national championships in 2019.

“We’ve already got some big players out there on our radar,” he said. “We are the four-time national championship runners up, we’ve got to win it one of these years.”
