Celebrating International Accounting Day at Bryant & Stratton College

International Accounting Day puts a spotlight on the importance of the accounting profession and highlights the role that accountants play in the businesses they are involved in. It is celebrated annually on November 10 to acknowledge the work that accountants do to allow businesses and organizations to thrive, support the economy, and help others navigate the complexities of finance. It was created in 1972 to help inspire younger generations to choose a career in accounting.

At Bryant & Stratton College we recognize the hard work and effort that accountants put in to keep businesses and organizations functioning properly. Accounting is a vital position that ensures businesses are up to date and financially secure.

The Role of an Accountant

Accountants help businesses and organizations make critical financial decisions by collecting, tracking, and correcting finances. Although the job involves crunching numbers and working with financial data, it also requires more problem solving than you may think. The duties of an accountant vary by position and organization. The most common tasks call for ensuring accuracy of financial documents, preparing and maintaining financial reports, preparing tax returns, evaluating financial operations, conducting risk analysis assessments, and more.

There are many different opportunities in the accounting field besides businesses. Individuals, non-profit groups, community organizations, governments, and even schools use accountants to keep their books balanced and organized.

Accountants should possess organization, attention to detail, time management, and critical thinking skills.
