Bryant & Stratton College in the Community - We're All in This Together

Our connection to the communities we serve has had a significant influence on our 170 years of education. In this extraordinary time, we are proud of the efforts taken by many of our campuses to donate medical supplies in their communities in order to support of the efforts to combat the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Wauwatosa, WI campus recently donated upwards of $20,000 worth of medical supplies to the Milwaukee County Health Department. The donation included masks, gloves, gowns and other protective gear.

“We encourage other local colleges with healthcare programs to see what supplies they can donate to the community,” said Medical Assisting Academic Program Director Dr. Marne Bonomo.

Each time she completes a set, she mails it out and she doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon. She’s already her handmade mask extenders (pictured) to Bon Secours Medical Associates, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Outer Banks Hospital and other local medical offices. Thanks to Kim’s hard work and ingenuity, healthcare workers throughout the region will be able to work in more comfort as they help to treat those with COVID-19.

Allied Health students at the Hampton and Virginia Beach campuses made and delivered greeting cards to local front line workers earlier in the month of April. See some pictures of the cards made by the students at the Virginia Beach Facebook page. 

With a growing need for ventilators for patients being treated for COVID-19, the Richmond, VA campus contacted the John Randolph Medical Center (JMRC) in order to lend them the ventilator used by healthcare students on-campus.

The team at the Richmond campus made sure to personally deliver the ventilator to JRMC and you can learn more about the donation and what it means for the treatment of patients here.

Meanwhile, the Student Nurses Association at the Richmond campus recently volunteered at the Chesterfield Food Bank. See more about their visit to the food bank by following this link.

Bryant & Stratton College Online Education has recently donated $1,500 to WNY Feeds the Frontlines, an initiative that provides meals to healthcare workers by teaming with local restaurants. For every $10 raised, WNY Feeds the Frontlines contributes a meal for a hospital worker in WNY through local restaurants. Each purchase also guarantees a 20% tip for the staff of each restaurant, providing valuable income to businesses and workers during this difficult time.

The Southtowns campus in Orchard Park, NY also made a sizeable donation to a local hospital this week. The healthcare program at the Southtowns campus collected their extra masks, gloves and gowns and donated them to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, which is part of Western New York’s Catholic Health Network. 

The donation from the Southtowns campus will allow Mercy Hospital and Catholic Health to direct the supplies where they are needed most as they treat the spread of coronavirus.

Both the Bryant & Stratton College campuses in Greece and Henrietta, NY combined to provide gloves, gowns, caps and other PPE to Strong Memorial Hospital in an effort to support their work controlling COVID-19.

Additional PPE including gowns, gloves and goggles, along with stethoscopes and other materials was collected by the Bryant & Stratton College campuses in Ohio and donated to the Brentwood Healthcare Center, a valued partner of Bryant & Stratton College. The materials will help supply the center and keep their staff safe in this time of need. The Ohio campuses made a second donation of PPE to The Kensington at Anna Maria, providing a second valued clinical partner with vital protective equipment as they work to treat COVID-19.

The Medical Assisting program at the Akron campus provided two cases of isolation gowns, over a case of vinyl gloves, three boxes of nitrile gloves, a box of show covers, nearly a case of alcohol swabs and 40 N95 masks to the City of Alliance Health Department. The Alliance Health Department was in need of supplies and after putting out a call for help, the Akron Medical Assisting program was able to step up and support their community in a time of need.
