Bryant and Stratton College Becomes OPOTA Training Facility and Announces New Career Offerings

Cleveland, OH – December 20, 2011 -The northeast Ohio campuses of Bryant & Stratton College are pleased to announce that they have been designated as Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) training sites. OPOTA, under the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, provides training oversight in the fields of law enforcement, private security, local corrections, jail personnel, bailiffs, and public defender investigators within the State of Ohio. Ohio certified law enforcement professionals, including peace officers, corrections officers, private security officers, bailiffs, and public defender investigators are required to complete a set of basic training requirements at a state-certified training site.

OPOTA-certified Private Security Academy and Law Enforcement Advanced Training are now offered through Bryant & Stratton College’s Cleveland downtown, Parma and Eastlake campus locations.

OPOTA Private Security Academy
The Private Security Academy is designed for individuals who wish to become certified private security officers in the State of Ohio. In addition to the state-mandated curriculum, the Private Security Academy also includes specialized training which will provide graduates with enhanced skills and greater career opportunities.

OPOTA Advanced Law Enforcement Training
For those currently in the law enforcement, security, corrections, bailiff or criminal justice fields, OPOTA-certified advanced law enforcement courses are now offered through Bryant & Stratton College. These courses provide opportunities for individuals currently in these fields to gain advanced skills and continuing education unit credits.

The law enforcement, security and related fields are a natural fit for many military veterans. The skills learned in the military are transferable to many law enforcement jobs. Additionally, with the passage of the U.S. Congressional Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Improvements Act, also known as the Post-9/11 GI Bill^®, veterans with at least 90 days of service on or after September 11, 2001 can obtain financial support to complete the OPOTA programs.
