NJCAA Men's Bobcats Defeat Louisburg College Hurricanes 70-62

The NJCAA #18 ranked Men’s Bobcats faced a tough conference opponent this past Saturday in the #2 ranked Louisburg College Hurricanes. This was the second meeting this year between the two with the Bobcats falling to the Hurricanes on January 7th on the road 76-69. This time the Bobcats were at home and looked to stay undefeated there this season.

From the start, the Bobcats jumped on the Hurricanes 10-1 in the first 4 minutes of play after a jumper by Jaleel Ferguson. Stiff defense by both teams led to a scoring drought over the next 6 minutes as the Hurricanes slowly cut into the lead to make the score 10-5. The Bobcats picked up the pace and gained a double digit lead with 4 minutes remaining in the first half, leading Hurricanes 24-12. The halftime score was 30-18 in favor of the Bobcats.

In the first 6 minutes of the 2nd half, the Bobcats extended the lead to 45-26 in large part to great shooting from Zachary Johnson who hit three straight 3-pointers. Over the next 4 minutes of the game, the Hurricanes used a 10-2 run to cut the Bobcat lead to 11. The lead remained 11 with 5 minutes to go in the second half as the Bobcats led 54-43. The lead was 10 for the Bobcats with 1:30 remaining in the second half. Camden Scott from Louisburg helped the Hurricanes cut the Bobcats lead to 5 with 40 seconds remaining after two straight 3-pointers. In the end, the Bobcats came out victorious defeating the Hurricanes 70-62. They were able to hold the high powered Louisburg offense 26 points under their average thanks to a great effort from the whole team on defense. This victory makes the Bobcats 17-5 on the season and 10-3 in Region 10 conference play.

Zach Johnson led all scorers with 23 points while also grabbing 6 rebounds. A’Kanni White scored 14 points with 4 assists and Demonte Burns added in 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Jaleel Ferguson scored 9 points and also had 6 rebounds. Rahson Robinson had a great all-around game with 5 points, 4 assists, and 10 rebounds.

Saturday February 7th the Bobcats look to stay undefeated at home as they host the Vance-Granville Vanguards. The Bobcats won the previous meeting 82-70. This is Homecoming for both the Men and Women’s Bobcats teams. The Lady Bobcats play Catawba Valley CC at 2pm followed by the Men against Vance-Granville at 4pm. Join the PINK OUT…Wear your pink to the game to raise awareness about Breast Cancer. Sunday February 8th the Bobcats are on the road against the Tidewater Community College Storm. The Bobcats were victorious in the previous meeting winning at home 77-67.
