Social Services vs Human Services
In many respects, social services and human services are very similar and are often confused with being one and the same. Both fields share a common goal to help people and communities overcome difficult challenges—from emergency response to local disasters to finding affordable housing.
A way to separate the two is to think of human services as the broader term, and social services as a component. Human services is focused on helping people meet basic needs while social services seeks to make life fairer for more marginalized groups in society—the unhoused, poor, underserved, etc. The right campus-based or online human services degree program could help you build essential skills to prepare to make a difference either way.
